Rhode Island is under its first drought watch since 2002.
Governor Dan McKee upgraded last month's drought advisory on the recommendation of the state's Drought Steering Committee.
Residents are strongly encouraged to take conservation measures as water demand peaks during the summer.
Voluntary water conservation actions include fixing leaky plumbing, hand watering plants and vegetable gardens and shortening showers by a minute or two.
There is no measurable rain in the forecast for the next several days.
